Our Projects

Arena Association is a community service provider which operates to further its primary purpose and objectives and provide and deliver services to the community and to fund, facilitate, implement, and operate sustainable projects.

Project 1 - Support GCGPR

Our first project is focused on identifying the most effective ways to support the Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue, a cause we are already deeply involved with as active volunteers. We are committed to finding sustainable ways to help fund the ongoing operating costs of the rescue, while also exploring improvements that can enhance its functionality and create a safer, more comfortable environment for the rescued animals. In addition to fundraising efforts, we dedicate our time each week to helping with property maintenance, including lawn mowing, whipper-snipping, and gardening. By offering both financial support and hands-on assistance, we hope to contribute to the long-term success of the rescue, ensuring that the animals have a secure and nurturing place to call home.

Project 2 - Concrete Apron at GCGPR Shed

To improve the functionality and stability of the Guinea pig rescue shed, I organized the installation of a concrete apron at the front. My brother and I worked together to build the form work and lay the concrete, ensuring that everything was properly aligned and slopped. The new concrete surface was essential, especially during wet weather, as it provided a solid foundation that prevented water from pooling around the shed. Additionally, the smooth, stable surface made it easier to roll cages and other equipment in and out of the shed, improving both accessibility and the overall care of the animals.

Project 3 - Rescue Shed Awning

The rescue shed was in need of an awning to provide much-needed protection from both the rain and the sun, particularly over the concrete apron in front of the shed. This awning would not only shield the area, allowing the shed doors to remain open during rainy weather, but it would also ensure that operations could continue uninterrupted, no matter the forecast. Additionally, the awning would create a more inviting space for hosting garage sales, where items sold by the rescue could be displayed in a sheltered area. I was fortunate enough to find a generous donor who provided the awning, and with the help of my brother, we carefully disassembled it, transported it to the rescue site, and reinstalled it. The process was a bit of a challenge, but the result was worth it, as the awning now enhances the functionality and appeal of the rescue shed, making it a more comfortable space for both volunteers and visitors.

Project 4 - Privacy Hedge

I planted 40 Mock Orange shrubs along two fences surrounding the property, with the goal of creating a natural hedge to enhance both privacy and noise reduction. As the plants mature, they will grow into a dense barrier, effectively shielding the Rescue from the constant noise of passing traffic on the road. In addition to providing a quieter environment for the animals, the hedge will also offer a greater sense of seclusion, ensuring that the space remains a peaceful and private haven for the rescue efforts.

Project 5 - Guinea Pig Race track

I built a Guinea pig racetrack for the annual "Guinea Pig Day Out," a popular event hosted each year by the GCGPR. This special day is filled with various fun activities and competitions where Guinea pigs and their owners can participate together. The racetrack I created added an exciting new element to the event, offering a fast-paced and entertaining activity for both the Guinea pigs and their owners. It quickly became a favorite among attendees, complementing the other games and events and bringing even more joy to this festive celebration of Guinea pig care and community.

Project 7 - Snake Deterrents

At the Guinea pig rescue, it was essential to implement snake deterrents to ensure the safety of the animals, as the area is prone to occasional snake sightings, especially during warmer months. Recognizing the potential danger, I purchased high-quality snake deterrents designed to create an environment that discourages snakes from entering the property. After receiving the deterrents, I carefully installed them around the perimeter of the rescue, focusing on areas where snakes were most likely to gain access. This proactive measure not only helps protect the Guinea pigs from potential harm but also provides peace of mind to staff and visitors, knowing that additional precautions are in place to prevent any unwanted encounters with snakes.

Project 7 - Pellet Making

We are currently exploring methods to produce our own food pellets for the Guinea pig rescue, with the aim of reducing costs and ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality nutrition for the animals. By researching and testing different production techniques, we hope to create a sustainable and cost-effective solution that meets the dietary needs of the rescue’s Guinea pigs. If successful, the plan is to sell these specially formulated pellets to the broader community, with the profits directly supporting the ongoing operations of the rescue. This initiative would not only help reduce the financial strain on the rescue but also provide a unique way for supporters to contribute while ensuring the animals receive the best care possible.

Fundraising

We have organized and run multiple fundraising events to support the Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue, with the goal of raising much-needed funds to help cover the operational costs and improve the facility. These events have included a variety of activities designed to engage the community, raise awareness, and encourage donations. From bake sales to auctions and donation drives, each event has been a valuable opportunity to bring together supporters and raise money for the care and well-being of the rescued animals. The success of these fundraisers has been instrumental in ensuring the continued operation of the rescue and in providing essential resources for its day-to-day needs.

Long Term Goal

Our goal is to raise enough funding to purchase land for conservation. To identify land for purchase we will locate area's that are home to multiple endangered species. By purchasing this land we will be able to protect

National park
